Day 4 DIY Window Treatments

So my mom couldn't find the "perfect" window treatments she needed for her front door and side windows.  She hired me for the task of designing her, her own personal custom set.

The Project

We went to a fabric shop here in Naples called Boca Bargoons Fabrics and found this really nice brown sheer fabric.  Any who, we got home, and I set up my space to get to work!

My Work Space

After doing a ton of measurements and re-measurements I finally got the sizes right and set my sewing machine to work!  It's been wayyy too long since I last used it. It did well for being in storage and not being used for over a couple of years!  And in the end, I made some pretty classy new window treatments for my mom!

Finished Project

I'm very proud of my work! This was the first time I ever made window treatments, so I have to say, it was a job well done! [And I was informed that the other 4 windows and sliding class door now need "custom" treatments as well....Looks like I have more work ahead of me!]

Day 4 - "Feed the Cat" Reminder!

I don't know about you guys, but between my boyfriend and I, we always have issues when it comes to who already fed the cats breakfast and dinner.  Our cats can be pretty sneaky and sometimes get away with more than two meals a day.  So, to solve our problem, like the dishwasher magnets, I created the "Feeding Scheduler"

Our plan: Each morning and around dinner time, we will check this to see if the other has already fed our sneaky felines.  If he fed them in the morning before work, he will turn it to the "Fed in the A.M" side.  When I get up in the morning and see it's on the A.M side, I'll know he fed them before work and not give them a 2nd breakfast.  And the same for dinner.  Easy Peasy!



To create you own you need:

• a Wooden circle or square (with or without the premade hole) [from your local Michael or Joanns or any other craft store]
• A Marker
• Fun stickers to decorate it with
• Push pin or nail [which ever you prefer]

Just take your base circle or square, write on the front "Fed in the Morning (or A.M.)" and on the back "Fed in the Afternoon (or P.M.)".  Decorate it how ever you would like and then hang it up at eye level and high enough that you pets can't get to it and flip it around on you [hehe] ;)  If you don't end up finding of the wooden circles like mine with the hole, thats okay!  Either drill your own hole or glue on a loop of ribbon or string to the top to hang it from.

Day 3 - Vintage Magnets

Since I have all the supplies to make these, I will show you how easy it is to make new magnets for your fridge, or even your magnetic board to put up notes.

Supplies you need:

• Buttons or vintage findings
• Bottle Caps
• Glue
• Magnet strips or circles

First you need a bunch of vintage buttons, earrings and jewelry parts (I picked these up one day from a thrift store, the whole bag only cost me $5.00!

Then, you need to have some craft glue and some bottle caps for glass sodas or beer.

Pick out which buttons/pieces you want to make magnets out of and then glue the bottle caps to the back of them (if they have earring posts or other things on the back, use wire cutters to clip them off)

Then while they're drying, save yourself a step and cut little squares of the magnet to glue on the back of the bottle caps.  They'll be dry and ready to use once the glue dries!

Day 2 - Sea Shell Wall Art

Day 2 of 365 Days of Crafts and I'm working on my Seashell Wall Flower!

I took an old CD and painted a medium to thick coating of glue all over it.  Then I sprinkled some very fine grained sand all over it to give it that "beachy feel".  After that I laid out my shells in a decorative pattern that I thought was appealing, a large cockle shell and some worm shells around it.  Then I took some really thick diameter wire (about 1.5 inch long and cut & bent it so it made an S shape and closed both ends.  This I super glued to the back of the CD [This will be used to hang up the wall flower when it's finished].

Next, I'll take some thinner wire, and make it spiral and hang it from the bottom of the wall flower and each piece will have a shell hanging from the bottom.  Beautiful and really simple.  I think this piece might look great in my bathroom!!  Now, I just need to get the wire so I can finish this one...

Day 1 - Can Vase

Day 1 of 365 Days of Crafts

Today I made a very simple vase out of a can.

After making canned corn one night, I decided to keep the can and use it to make something fun!  I took the can and cleaned it out really good and took off the paper label.  Then I super glued some seashells I have collected and made a decorative rim on the top of the can.  It needed a bit of color so I added some bright yellow ribbon to border the bottom rim of the can.  Because the can is light weight, I filled the inside with some decorative pebbles to keep it stable and hold my faux flowers in place.  It's really easy to make and you can decorate it how ever you like!  NOTE: This is a great idea for small stalks of bamboo since they don't need to have a drain at the bottom of the can!  If you wanted to, you could cut small holes in the bottom of the can for drainage and use them as planters for your lanai or patio!

I'm inspired.

My boyfriend and I watched Julie & Julia and of course, I'm inspired to do 365 crafts in 365 days.  WITH PICTURES!  Since pictures always make things more exciting!
